Summertime Woes

It was the good ole summertime,
When joy and youth were always mine
We'd sneak a kiss among the pines
But never cross the unseen line
Alas, no fishing or yachting
No trip to the pup, an’ darting
The summer’s sun, I kiss and shine
None but you my darling were mine
I pine now that it’s summertime
I wish it were not summertime
My eyes swollen with tears of brine
My cries are heard within the shrine
There’ll be no kissing, no prancing
No one will hold me while dancing
My majestic home dark, no shine
Lovely poetry gone, I whine
Alas it is the summertime
For me it was a dream sublime.
